In June of 2000 a group of Obedience Judges from throughout New Zealand, attended a seminar on judging.
It was at this seminar, that the concept of an Obedience Judges Association was born.
It was decided that the Association’s objectives would be:

It was decided that the Association’s objectives would be:
- To develop and implement a national training programme, including assessment prior to and whilst on the judges panel. In introducing a training program, it was hoped that assistance could be given to suitable and interested people who may otherwise not have achieved the necessary points in competition to become trainee judges.
- To represent members at Regional, National and International levels in whatever forums that are appropriate to support their interests.
- To hold regular seminars and training sessions for all obedience judges.
- To have a national conference on an annual basis.
- To be involved with the formation of regulation and regulation changes relating to dog obedience competition within New Zealand.
